For stats junkies, here are a few more bits pulled from the masses of numbers issued from the California Department of Education on STAR that came out today (for full story read Tuesday’s Press Democrat):

 Percentage of students scoring at proficient or advanced in English in 2010:

All California students: 52 percent

Female: 56 percent

Male: 49 percent

The change in percentage for girls between 2003-10 reaching proficient or above is 17 percent. For boys, it’s 18 percent.

White: 69 percent. Up 16 percent between 2003-10.

Latino: 40 percent. Up 20 percent between 2003-10.

Economically disadvantaged: 39 percent. Up 19 percent between 2003-10.

English speakers only: 60 percent. Up 16 percent between 2003-10.

English learners: 21 percent. Up 11 percent between 2003-10.

Percentage of students scoring at proficient or advanced in math in 2010:

All California students: 48 percent. Up 13 percent between 2003-10

Female: 48 percent Up 14 percent between 2003-10)

Male: 48 percent Up 13 percent between 2003-10)

Latino: 39 percent. Up 16 percent between 2003-10.

White: 59 percent. Up 12 percent between 2003-10.

Economically disadvantaged: 39 percent. Up 15 percent between 2003-10.

English speakers only: 52 percent. Up 13 percent between 2003-10.

English learners: 34 percent. Up 14 percent between 2003-10.
