In addition to the series of free tours of SSU’s Green Music Center (read about those by clicking here: http://bit.ly/c9vcU1) the school is also hosting a number of free musical performances in the coming months.

The concerts are free and open to the public but RSVPs are required.  To reserve tickets on a first come, first served basis, call the School of Performing Arts box office at 664-2353.

Parent and Family Weekend – Collage; A Music Department Sampler. 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 2 –  The third annual Collage Concert juxtaposes the Chorus, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra, chamber musicians and soloists in an unforgettable visual and aural spectacle.

Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow – Evert B. Person Scholarship Showcase, 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 22 – In recognition of the generous supporters of SSU Music and Music Theatre majors, the award-winning students present a short concert of thanks.

Jazz in the Concert Hall: Faculty Jazz Ensemble, 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 4 – Jazz Studies Director, Grammy-nominated trombonist and composer Doug Leibinger leads the formidable talents of SSU’s jazz faculty in the Concert Hall of the Green Music Center.   Faculty Jazz artists include Bob Afifi, flute; Pete Estabrook, trumpet; Randy Vincent, guitar; John Simon, piano; Cliff Hugo, bass; and George Marsh, drums.

Viva voce! Vocal Repertory Recital, Part. 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 15 – Each Vocal Repertory Recital represents the culmination of a semester’s study of vocal music from many styles and historical periods.  Working under the leadership of our outstanding voice faculty, SSU voice students perform solos and duets accompanied by professional coaches. Second in a two-part series.

Ravel and Brahms in the Concert Hall, Resident Artists in Recital – Trio Navarro, 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011  Sequestered in the Basque village of St. Jean-de-Luz, Maurice Ravel wrote, “I have never worked with more insane, more heroic intensity.”  Trio Navarro will perform Ravel’s epic Piano Trio of 1914 and Brahms’ B Major Trio Op. 8 (1891 version).
