Santa Rosa High School and Healdsburg Junior High have been honored as California Distinguished Schools for 2011.

Five of the 97 middle and high schools announced Tuesday were also singled to win the Exemplary Career Technical Education Program Award. Santa Rosa High School was among those doubly honored.

“These schools are being recognized for attaining high levels of performance and sustained growth, and for making significant progress in closing the academic achievement gap,” said California Superintendent of Schools Tom Torlakson in a statement.

“They have succeeded despite a bleak economic environment and have endeavored to maintain their momentum and focus,” he said.

Clear Lake High School in Lake County was also honored.

The schools will be honored on May 20 in Anaheim.

The honor is given to elementary and secondary campuses in alternating years.
