Sonoma County Day School in Santa Rosa has established a new merit-based scholarship for the 2011-12 school year.

The award will be given to one fifth, sixth or seventh grade student based on academic achievement, demonstrated capacity for positive leadership and contribution to life on campus, according to school officials.

The award could be up to 60 percent of annual tuition which is $19,950 for fifth graders and $22,260 for sixth and seventh graders. Enrollment last year was 253 kids, 34 percent of whom received financial aid from the school last year, according to school officials.
