Wright School District has named Karen Salvaggio as interim superintendent to replace Casey D’Angelo who headed over to Rincon Valley on July 1.

We are planning to run a short on Salvaggio’s hire in Friday’s paper, but there wasn’t room for some interesting tidbits that hopefully we can come back to. Until then, here are some bits from Salvaggio’s background, as provided by Wright District officials.

Before entering education, Salvaggio spent nine years in the Air Force, where she won the USAF Commendation Medal and Commandant’s Award for Leadership and Management. She was crew chief and lead mechanic on B-52’s and managed flight line maintenance operations at her base in Okinawa.

She started her career in education as a substitute teacher and went to school at night on the GI Bill.

For fun, she races cars. She apparently wins, too. Wright officials said she holds records at Infineon and fields an endurance racing team.

She leaves 3,000-student Romoland School District in Riverside County. She has been in education 22 years.
