Luther Burbank Elementary School in Santa Rosa has a new principal.

Julian Szot, who this year served as principal at Mira Vista Elementary School in the West Contra Costa Unified School District, takes over at the A Street campus today.

Burbank Elementary had been led by Kris Cosca until he left for a position in Napa County in August. The school was shepherded through the first semester by retired elementary school principals Steve Nielsen and Winnie Hogoboom, who will assist in the transition, according to officials from Santa Rosa City Schools.

Szot spent three years as principal at the K-8 Mira Vista School, three years at Adams Middle School, and five years at M.L. King Elementary School, all in the West Contra Costa District. Szot has also worked as a principal and teacher in K-8 schools in Manitoba and Ontario, Canada.
